Report of Activities (2016-17)
The Department began the activities of the year 2016 with Saraswati Pooja followed by an event specific lecture on 12th February on the occasion of celebration of the festival of Basant. The speaker was Padmashri Dr. Ramakant Shukla who is a retired Associate Professor, Rajdhani College, University of Delhi and he enlightened the gathering consisting of students and faculty from Sanskrit and other departments on ‘Saraswati in the Vedas’.
Later, on 10th March, an interactive academic session was arranged with Professor Balram Singh from University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, USA as the distinguished speaker. The topic of his address was ‘Scientific Lens on the Sanskrit Literature’. The semester closed with a special ceremony by the Sanskrit association on 19th April 2016 which was an inter college activity with good participation.
The Sanskrit department inaugurated the Sanskrit Association and organized an inter class Shloka Recitation Competition on 29th September, 2017. This event was graced by the presence of Dr. Dayal Singh Panwar, Associate Professor of Sanskrit at Sri Lal Bahadur ShastriRashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, New Delhi. He delivered a lecture on ‘Incorporating Sanskrit Literature in Daily Life for Professional and Personal Growth.’ He gave away prizes to the winners of this competition and other competitions of last Semester. Intercollege Kavyali Competition in Association with Delhi Sanskrit Academy was organized by the Department of Sanskrit on 17th January, 2017 wherein our students were awarded the third prize.
